On the directives of the than Prime Minister of Pakistan, HEC was given the task to develop criteria, mechanism and roadmap for procurement and distribution of laptops to young and bright students studying in public sector higher education institutions across the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 1,159,859 students applied for the said scheme since inception. The students were selected purely on merit. 450,000+ laptops are successfully distributed among young and talented students through Well-defined and transparent mechanism. An online ITIL compliant CRM based trouble ticket system was developed to facilitate the students and focal persons of the universities/ institutes. The system has the capability to handle the runtime data of over thousands of students
The project facilitated an international company to invest in Pakistan and establish their assemble plant at Pakistan. The company has now established their SMT manufacturing plant, now Pakistan`s first “Made in Pakistan” laptops have been made in Lahore. A total 200,000 laptops have been manufactured. A total of three hundred (300) Pakistani engineers and technical resources have been trained for the CKD production of laptops.
Further, four Smart Class Rooms were been established in four public sector universities (CIIT, Islamabad, IBA-Sukkur, GCWU, Sialkot & Abbottabad University) under Customer Social Responsibility (CSR).
In order to enhance laptops recipients’ knowledge and skills for professional career, courses from world leading and renowned universities like Stanford University, The University of Pennsylvania – Wharton, Columbia University, 8000 single courses have been offered to students through renounced Coursera international platform.
The program covered 109 public sector universities and sub campus along with FATA, ICT and GCTs colleges have been benefited under Prime Minister Laptop Scheme. 41% female students are awarded the laptops on merit under this scheme.
